xylitol music box

the xylitol music box is a special edition gift object designed by superset design for lotte. It is inspired by the heritage of the company’s chewing gum business, which marked its beginning in 1967. as one of south korea’s five largest companies, lotte later expanded into distribution, food, and tourism, with chewing gum remaining a symbolic starting point of that legacy.

created as a new brand heritage object, the xylitol music box reinterprets that legacy through industrial design. while the company already has recognizable icons such as lotte world tower, its logo mark, and numerous brands, this project introduces a new kind of physical brand experience through a carefully crafted object.

the main inspiration came from the long-familiar cm song associated with its chewing gum. even people who may not know every brand in the group often recognize this melody. superset design translated that sound into form, using industrial design to transform music into a tangible experience and naturally embed the company’s heritage into the object itself.

when the handle is turned, the xylitol music box plays a nostalgic jingle while dispensing a piece of gum. the turning gears, the music, and the taste of the gum come together to create a multi-sensory brand experience. more than a simple music box or gum dispenser, the project allows consumers to instinctively recall and connect with 55 years of heritage.
